The increasing number of bed bugs all over the world has lead to an increased need for bed bugs extermination.
Bed bugs infestations are more dominant in places where people live together like hotels, motels, apartments and hostels. Though bed bugs have been around for a long time, the recent increased hike is attributed to the increase in world travel.
This is because these bugs easily attach and hide themselves in luggage so that they can take a ride around the world. However because the hike in bed bugs infestations has been recent, not many people know bedbugs how to kill them. In addition to this problem, the bed bugs of today are more resistant to insecticides.
Bed bugs generally infest areas where people sleep as they are nocturnal insects and only feed on things just before dawn. This is the reason you never will know about a bed bug infestation until and up till you are bit by a bed bug.
Verify the site of the infestation
There is no point in trying to carry out bed bugs extermination as you would with other insects. This is because this will not work at all. For a successful extermination, you have to follow these steps.
- The first thing to do is to verify an actual infestation before you do anything.
- Once it is verified, you have to remove as much clutter from the area so that the bed bugs’ hiding places is limited.
- There may be some bed bug eggs found on the beds, which are best removed using a brush.
Once this is all done, you have to vacuum the mattress, box springs and thoroughly clean and vacuum surrounding furniture and floors. Make it a point to wash all the bedding and clothes in the vicinity using hot water, and then dry them for a longer period on extra high heat.
Repeat the process every week for a few weeks
The next step of bed bugs extermination lies in chemically treating the area using any product that is meant to get rid of bed bugs. Don’t forget to concentrate on the areas where the bed bugs are most likely to reach your home.
This process of treating and cleaning the area has to be repeated every week, for three or four weeks so that you manage to exterminate all the missed eggs. Some professional exterminators tend to use steam cleaners so that they kill the bed bugs.
The reason for this is that bed bugs cannot survive at temperatures exceeding 110 degrees Fahrenheit. With the heat killing the bugs, you just have to get rid of its remains so that you have complete bed bugs extermination where you need not worry about bed bugs ever again.
Once you have exterminated the bed bugs, aim at cleaning your home periodically, to prevent an infestation. Place special emphasis on the infested rooms, so that there are not many places for the bed bugs to hide their eggs. This done, you are sure of a complete bed bugs extermination.
